Production Notes - So much fun! A totally new collection of vases we dubbed "The Air Plant Condos" These little high rises hold individual Air Plants that are so easy to care for, indoors or outdoors, just spray with water or a quick rinse in a sink 1 to 2 times a week. No bottoms makes for easy drainage and no yucky water in the Condo Basement.

That's it, they last for years. There is NO DIRT or WATER in the vase, just plug them into the window holes and your Condo is set to go! It even has a "Penthouse" on top. This Condo has multiple spaces for Air Plants and is split Blue/Black in color and is bent.

About Our Process

Items I create are hand-thrown pottery from clay on a wheel in my studio or occasionally hand-formed flat pieces. All are original and one-of-a-kind as there are no production runs of this work. Nor are the pieces dipped in glaze - they are all hand painted with multiple coats to achieve a rich dimensional glaze look.

My Vases and Bowls are fired TWICE in a kiln, the first firing is a bisque fire where I apply an underglaze color by hand - typically three coats of color so there is layer of background color on every piece. After that firing, I then create the intricate designs, carving, adornments or embellishments with slip, special tape and/or dots to create the modern contemporary look of my pottery. After the design phase, three more coats of glaze color are hand painted on. When dry, I give some bottoms a distinctive red coat. At this time, I return to the kiln to fire the finished piece to a wonderful lead-free gloss finish that is dishwasher and oven safe.

The process is highly laborious, but I love the simple, whimsical and unique look of every piece. I am constantly experimenting with color combinations, design concepts and ultimately the actual use of these pieces for my friends and customers.
