Production Notes - This is probably one of the most unusual and elegant vases I have ever made. It was an experiment gone right! It touts one of my favorite blue crystal bubble glazes but it is the shape that is so amazing. It is a whopping 9.5" wide and 7.5" tall, but the thin oval is so elegant. It has a wonderful little cup at the top, just right to hold a few beautiful buds. You will not find this in any production replication, it truly is a one of a kind.
Note - I priced this at $85.00+ but there is a small glaze blemish that is on the inside of the oval. You can see it on the right side of photo #3 above. For this reason I have taken just over 35% off - It is yours at a considerable discount for $55.00 with free shipping.
Items I create are hand-thrown pottery from clay on a wheel in my studio or occasionally hand-formed flat pieces. All are original and one-of-a-kind as there are no production runs of this work. Nor are the pieces dipped in glaze - they are all hand painted with multiple coats to achieve a rich dimensional glaze look.
My Vases and Bowls are fired TWICE in a kiln, the first firing is a bisque fire where I apply an underglaze color by hand - typically three coats of color so there is layer of background color on every piece. After that firing, I then create the intricate designs, carving, adornments or embellishments with slip, special tape and/or dots to create the modern contemporary look of my pottery. After the design phase, three more coats of glaze color are hand painted on. When dry, I give the bottoms a distinctive red coat. At this time, I return to the kiln to fire the finished piece to a wonderful lead-free gloss finish that is dishwasher and oven safe.
The process is highly laborious, but I love the simple, whimsical and unique look of every piece. I am constantly experimenting with color combinations, design concepts and ultimately the actual use of these pieces for my friends and customers. Yes, our glazes are food safe and the heat and water of a dishwasher will not affect my pottery. They are also microwave and oven safe.
